"I'll
see you in a week," he said, and left his house to walk to the port. He
met his four friends and they got onto the boat, set off and soon started fishing. Suddenly,
there was a terrible storm which lasted for 22 days. When
it stopped, their radio and engine were broken. They
had lost their fishing nets and there wasn't any fresh water. So
they couldn't fish, but they could reach out of the boat and catch big turtles. When
it rained the roof caught the rainwater and they could drink it. In
June it didn't rain for a long time. All the men were
very hungry and thirsty and they thought that they were going to die. They
put on their best clothes and lay down, then, suddenly it started to rain again. They
drank the rainwater and thanked God for saving them. A
few days later a Japanese ship picked them up and took them back to Mexico. They
were 6,500 kilometres from home and they had been at sea for nearly six months. |
