Takayuki, a friend of mine, works for a large Japanese
automobile company. Last year he got a big surprise
when his boss told him that he wanted him to work in the company branch in London
for two years. Takayuki didn't really want to go abroad,
but he accepted the job and started preparing to move to London. He
already spoke English quite well, but his company paid for an intensive language
course. Last week I got a letter from him in London. He
said that he was enjoying himself very much. His apartment
in London was much bigger than his home in Japan and it was great to have a Japanese
salary and live in England; things are much cheaper there. He
said that his wife was enjoying English culture. She
likes classical music and opera and it's so much cheaper to go to concerts in
London. He said that Japanese employees in England
are more relaxed; they spend less time at the office and don't have to go drinking
with their colleagues. |
