| Her
mother was a ballet dancer who travelled a lot, so she was brought up by her grandmother
and other family members. She was attracted to dance
and, as a five-year-old, appeared in a Bob Marley video. She
didn't experience any problems because she was black; she punched the first white
boy who teased her and he didn't try again. From age
five to sixteen, she studied theatre arts every day and was discovered in Covent
Garden by a top fashion agent. Her mother wanted her
to complete her schooling, but in the end she let her become a professional model. Since
then, her career has gone from strength to strength. She
is the first black woman to appear on the cover of French Vogue Magazine twice
in one year. In her house she has five closets; green,
pink, beige, black and white. She says that one of
the high-spots of her life was going to South Africa and meeting Nelson Mandela,
who she thought was wonderful. She is also a smart
businesswoman, with homes in London and Jamaica. She
says that Jamaica is a paradise and her second home. Her
only regret is that she doesn't spend as much time as she would like to there;
she's much too busy flying around the world doing modelling work. |
